Acclaimed Games

Acclaimed Video Games is a massive project that I believe deserves to be spotlighted here. A significant amount of effort has been taken to gather and collate as many Best Of lists from game publications, before being fed into an algorithm that determines the closest thing to critical consensus that’s ever been achieved in the field of video games.

Full Disclosure: The project creator is a close personal friend of mine from high school. In addition, I have collaborated on the project in a very loose sense, contributing early data entry and then acting as a sounding board or general games industry pundit for further questions and assistance. I have no financial ties to Acclaimed Video Games in any way, and the only benefit I would personally receive from its success is seeing my friend’s project make waves, nothing more.

Having watched this project take form for literal years of effort and work to get into the state it’s in, I can safely and unequivocally say that nothing like it has been done for the medium of games at this scale ever before. It creates a fascinating and in-depth showcase of what games do and don’t receive the critical acclaim we feel they might deserve, and could easily serve as the start of endless discussions not just about the quality of individual games, but the quality and standards of game critique and writing as a whole.

Even if you just check it out to see where your favourite game ends up, I highly recommend checking it out and supporting it however you can.

In addition, if anyone in games media would like to get in touch with the project creator, their details are available on the AVG website, and they can be reached via contact@acclaimedvideogames.com.
